New Release Tuesday: Motion City Soundtrack "Timelines"

This is a great new song by Motion City Soundtrack coming off their release "Go", which is due out June 12th, 2012.  It's got the poppy chorus that you would expect.  I always enjoyed Justin's vocal ability, and he sounds great in this track.  The music really drives along in that chorus.  I am excited for this album to come out soon.

Memo Monday: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD Track Listing

This is cool news as there's going to be a high definition version of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, which featured some great punk rock songs. I always have attributed this game to my first taste of punk rock music.  Lagwagon's "May 16th" to be specific.  That's what I call my first punk rock song. I heard it, and thought hey punk rock doesn't have to be so fast and aggressive.  It can be melodic and easy to sing along with.  Lagwagon really did make their best music with that album "Let's Talk about Feelings" in my mind, and that's the first album I made sure to pick up.
Here's the track listing, so you can see what songs will be featured.  There are 8 from the original game and 8 new songs.

"Bring the Noise" Anthrax featuring Chuck D
"Superman" Goldfinger
"When Worlds Collide" Powerman 5000
"Heavy Metal Winner" Consumed
"May 16" Lagwagon
"No Cigar" Millencolin
"You" Bad Religion
"The Bomb" Pigeon John
"We the People" Lateef the Truthspeaker
"Marathon Mansion!" Pegasuses-XL
"Teenage Blood" Apex Manor
"Please Ask for Help" Telekinesis
"Flyentology (Cassettes Won't Listen Remix)" El-P featuring Trent Reznor
"USA" Middle Class Rut

Bands I want to See Live

Hopefully, I've not blogged about this before, but as I was listening to Motion City Soundtrack, I got to thinking I've never seen them in a live full set. I've seen them at Warped Tour, but that's just a half hour quickie, and I don't count that as seeing the band live in their own set.  I guess it counts in a way, but you get what I'm saying!

So what other bands have I not had the pleasure of seeing, but want to and hopefully will get to see soon?

The Bouncing Souls-  Once again, I've seen them at Warped Tour at an 11:30 spot and boy they tore through that quickly.  But I want to see a real set of theirs because they're such a fan friendly band.  They have great punk rock songs and seem to care just about making that music, which is awesome.

Hot Water Music-  They've been back a few years now, and I finally appreciate the goodness that is HWM.  They're a loud and aggressive band that once again makes music for the sake of making music.  They seem to have some great loyal fans, and they bring that loyalty back.

Brand New-  I was late to the Brand New party, but "Your Favorite Weapon" is quite the album.  They won't be sounding anything like that now, but I would still have to see them soon.

I like this song for now

This morning since I have no fm tuner for my iphone, I had to listen to the radio and I finally gave this song a full listen as it came on. I was curious as to what the deal was about it, and why people seemed to really enjoy it. But then listening, I realized with the simplicity of the music, and the lyrics running through it, it's a good song. Everything seems to work out for this. I think the lyrics really just hit me since writing lyrics aren't my own strong suit, so when I hear great lyrics, I think that's what I should be doing. I am sure once I hear this song enough times, I'll be sick of it. But for now, this is a great song.

Do I Enjoy Female Fronted Music?

This question came up after the news that Tom Gabel will be known as Laura after a sex change operation.  Now this is of course some major news concerning him, his band, and even the punk rock community. I've read the comments on punknews.org and most people seem very supportive of this decision.

I feel the same way. I think if this is something he needs to do, then he needs to do it.  It sounds like Tom has had this issues lingering, and even looking at lyrics of a couple of songs by Against Me, those thoughts come up.  I think you can hold a lot in lyrics, and now those lyrics come to make sense.

But then a friend of mine, says well you don't like female fronted rock because I got to thinking what does this mean for the future of Against Me.  Does the band continue or what is going to happen?  Then the question does come up: Do I enjoy female fronted bands?

And I guess I don't have a good answer because in my musical listening, that's not on my radar.  The punk rock scene isn't exactly bursting with females leading a burly punk rock band.  There's a lot of testosterone flowing in that music scene, so it's not like I have a lot of options to listen to female bands.

There are two songs that are female fronted that I do enjoy and can tolerate. I know it's not a lot, but hey it's something.   One I gladly admit to liking and the other one I am shamelessly admitting that I enjoy.  So here it goes putting out to the blogging world and the internet, two female songs that I enjoy.

1.  No Doubt is just a good band and one that I've seen live to enjoy in person. This song wasn't as good live since the band slowed it down a bit, and it didn't have the same energy to me.
But this is a good song, so it's on my short list.

 2.  Here goes the shameless pleasure. It's just darn catchy and I can't help but crank it up on the radio.
 Let the teasing begin.

New Release Tuesday: Matt Skiba and the Sekrets

Being the huge Alkaline Trio fan I am, once I saw the news that Matt Skiba was putting another project together, I gave this a listen. It's a full album stream before the album comes out.  It's definitely the feel of Alkaline Trio mixed with some old 80's feel to me.  It just makes me wonder, WHY CAN"T THEY JUST RELEASE THIS THROUGH ALKALINE TRIO???  But this is pretty sweet to listen to, so check it out.
