Mighty Mighty Bosstones "Magic of Youth"

I remember hearing about this album in summer and thinking man that's a long time away for an album release, but it's sitting up on Spotify, so you can give it a listen. Go skank in your room, and enjoy the fantastic sounds of the Bosstones. I've had the pleasure of checking them out a couple of times.  Once at a Warped Tour, where I couldn't believe they still pulled out the suits and ties in what's usually the hottest day of the year.  Even mentioning how hot they were, but they wanted to look good.  Then I saw the band at Riot Fest, and the best memory there was when they played "Impossible Dream" and had a HUGE banner of Obama come down.  Who knew that he would become president?  And it helped that it was Chicago, so that was a bit of a cheap pop from the band.  But go listen, buy, and enjoy this new album by a long time running ska band.

The Canal - Lemons (Official Music Video)(HD)

This fine local band from Indianapolis has their first official music video, so I had to give them some love in my blog. I'll need to make some time and see these guys live soon.

Thank you to Spotify

I've had a couple of months to really use this whole Spotify service, and I have to say I love it. Granted, I feel like I have ADD when I listen because I start with one song, and think of another song, and jump to that, and think of another song, and jump to that and so on.  But overall, the experience is awesome.  I feel all the music that I enjoy on there, and I've synced up my itunes music in there, so I can still have my library of music available.  I think the best feature for Spotify is the related artists. I have all my favorite artists that I love, but it's nice to find another one that's like them, that I might not have heard before.  I guess the downfall of this service is I'm not buying music as much. But I don't think that's all of the reason, truly there's not a lot of music out there that I would be.  That's the bigger issue, and yes that's a whole other ball of wax, the state of music.  But overall, I love Spotify, and hope you can give it a look yourself.

Review of Mason Reed and Ryan M. Brewer at Indy's Jukebox

Last night, I ventured out to a new venue to me, Indy's Jukebox.  This place is now holding shows that the Vollrath Tavern, which had to close, was scheduled to hold.  I had no idea where this place was, but luckily it wasn't too far from me, and once I got there, I realized exactly where it was.

Overall, it's a cool little place, and I hope that more bands will get to play there.  Last night was just acoustic singer songwriters, so I am interested to hear how a whole band would sound in the small place.  The sound last night was great for what they were doing. I could make out everything loudly and clearly.

Playing first was Ryan Brewer. I had the pleasure of seeing him playing with Fallow, and was hooked on that band, so this was a different change of pace. But I had been keeping up with his music Monday series, so I knew what kind of sound he could bring. The songs are very in depth about what he's singing. His vocal range is wide ranged and can easily go up in the high region or down low in that bassy tone. A very good thing! There's a hint of blues in some of the songs, but overall it's just good acoustic stuff that you can sit and enjoy while having a low key night at Indy's Jukebox.

After him was Mason Reed, who I had no idea what he was all about, and I can say yet again the singing caught my ear.  His voice was very bassy, and it's funny to think that the singing came out of him.  Think something like Johnny Cash, but with a little more depth to it.  Very folk and country influenced.  But the cool thing about Mason is he has a notebook that he asks for people to autograph.  Just think most people want the singer's autograph, but Mason wanted the people's autograph. I took a few minutes and wrote him a short note.  The songs are all about life, and I can tell there's a story behind every song. I am one of those people who would love to hear all the stories behind the songs.  He's been traveling for about five weeks, and is eager to make it back home.  But he enjoyed the visit he had last night and I hope he makes it out here again.
