Shameless Plug 30- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Edition

With the announcement of possible candidates for the class of 2012 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I wanted to give out my thoughts on all things Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  Who should be in?  Why are these bands being inducted?  Why is it still called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Blink 182 Neighborhoods is FINALLY here

I used this as my background music for my sports blog, and I must say that after waiting years for new Blink material, it's great to hear.  I think this is a great sequel for the last album, and doesn't feel out of place with the Blink catalog, which is something I feared.  Knowing Tom was busy with Angels and Airwaves, Travis was busy with his solo album, and Mark was busy moving away to London, I am surprised when push came to shove, Blink got this album done.  They've been together again for about three years, so obviously, new material took longer than fans wanted, and the band probably anticipated. All the tracks really seem to gel well together, and I am a big fan of Up All Night and After Midnight.  A pleasant surprise was the song, MH 4.18.2011, something that feels like it could have been back on Dude Ranch or Enema of the State.

Musician's Block

I am not ready to give up the idea of playing music, but it's frustrating putting out the feelers for bandmates when nothing is happening.  I know I can get out there for shows, record music, and see where it goes. I have nothing else going on right now, and this would be the ideal time for me to playing music. I can come up with something out of nothing.  And when that something becomes a song, there's no better feeling.  I still remember the time that Okay Death Ray was playing and I saw people were singing along, that was validation, not that I NEEDED it, that we had a good song. I sing along with songs that mean something and I can get behind, so therefore, nothing was a  better feeling than achieving that.  That's why I want to still make music.  I go to shows anymore, and think why I am not up there.  No offensive to the local music around here!  We do have some great things happening, and I still believe Indy can be a Midwest stop for the bigger bands as long as they're willing to play here.  People need to show that support right back.  I'll continue the search and hope that I can keep writing music because why give it up now?

Thrice "Major/Minor" New Album

Thrice just put out a new cd that I've been listening to on Spotify, and I must say I am impressed and really liking it. It has this intensity that I think was missing in their last release. Thrice seems to be one of those bands not afraid to change up the sound a bit as well. Some of the early releases were a little bit hardcore punk, and now this band has evolved into a bluesy grunge sound.  Yea that probably doesn't totally explain it, but when you hear the songs you get this almost feeling of bands just thrashing away on their guitar, but it's melodic and you can get into it.  I remember seeing Thrice with Gaslight Anthem, Alkaline Trio, and Rise Against in Chicago, and I was impressed then. That was a great show all around, but that's a whole other story.  So give this new album, Major/Minor, a listen, and let me know what you think.

Take a Walk

Song just put together last night as a rough demo. I really like the guitar part, so I knew I had to record it, and the words just came out as I was humming along. Probably will clean up the vocals, tighten them up a bit, add some intensity, find a drummer for it, and add some bass line for it, then it will be a great song!

Shameless Plug 28- Give the Drummer Some

After attending Blink 182 over the weekend, and witnessing Travis Barker drum his face off, I thought this week I would talk about drummers.  Some of my favorite drummers to watch, and why it's so important for that drummer to be just right for the band.

Blink 182 can still rock out

Ahh last night was a great time. I felt like I was back in my younger days for a moment, and able to take in all the kids around me enjoying a great night of music.

Matt and Kim started the evening off. I don't care for them that much. I thought their songs all sound about the same, but they were entertaining and the drummer chick jumped around and really could bang the heck out of those drums. Just couldn't hear the drums over that wailing keyboard. they did some transition covers, and ended with Daylight, which seemed to be a big hit with the crowd.

Next up was My Chemical Romance, and once again, not a fan, but entertaining band. They just played through the set, which was a good change of pace. I knew we would get the witty banter from Blink 182, so why would MCR have to do anything like that? The crowd really started showing up when MCR playing, and MCR seemed to play a lot of the older stuff. I did enjoy "I'm Not Okay." They ended with some depressing song from the Black Parade, though, and I thought that was an odd way to end the set. From what I heard in the crowd, they always end like that.

Finally, the act that I think most people came for, Blink 182. Blink sounded even better this time around than two years ago. You could tell how much they just enjoy playing music now, and really have that essence of their older days. Tom kept telling us how sick he was to which Mark stated Shut the F up, you already told everyone how sick you were ten minutes ago. Ahh I love the banter! They did quite a few songs from the self titled album, four new songs, and of course the old classics. Carousel had a sweet intro. And I can't say enough about Travis, the drummer. For the encore, he was placed on this riser that would go out about the pit, and rotated a little bit. He got to be front and center, while beating the drums to his song "Give the Drummer Some." He would have been my last guess for a solo album, but hey I know he could play any drum rhythm you want, so why not. It was just a fantastic show all around, and I can't wait to hear the new album on September 27.

In honor of Frisky Friday, I am going to post pictures of me looking very frisky and seductive.  Are you ready???  Here we go!!!

Ok no one really wants to see that...yet.  I need to get in frisky shape, and then I'll show those off.   But I will post music that might make you feel frisky.  Here is my playlist to you.  Don't blame any baby making on me after hearing some of these gems.

This is the true baby making music, and it has been known to turn on people, so maybe I should post NSFW!!
