Can't believe I got to score an interview like this! I got turned on to this band recently, and was glad to see they're back together touring. Touring is what we decided to focus on. I love the touring aspect of a band, so I decided that would be a great focus.
Also if you've never heard of the Gamits, here's a brief introduction to the band, and I've included their band camp page so you can go listen to some of their music.
"The Gamits are a band from Denver, Colorado who formed in 1996, and were hailed as "America's best hidden pop/punk secret".[1] The band was disbanded in 2005 due to the members wishing to participate in and start other projects, but regrouped in late 2009. The current line-up is Chris Fogal on guitar and vocals, Forrest Bartosh on drums and Scott Weigel on bass and background vocals."
Best tour story you have.
Maybe not the best but one of most memorable times was once when we were crossing the border fromHolland to Belgium. ( I think it was Belgium ) The important thing is that we were on our way from Holland and being a band they assumed we had drugs in the van. We were smarter than that and out of two whole bands there was not a drug of any kind to be found. We had partied super hard the night before because the tour was coming to an end. We were all really haggard and had to pee like crazy. The border patrol stopped us and kept us there for 2 or 3 hours while they systematically tore apart the van and strip searched us one by one. We had to get totally naked and spread eagle against the wall! Then we had to unpack all our bags and lay every item out on a table for them to examine ( smell ) If you can imagine what a bag full of month old tour socks smells like then you can imagine how bad it sucks to have their job at that moment. The best part was that Forrest, our drummer, had been "sharpeed" the night before with all kinds of crazy shit. It was right after 9 / 11 and I remember some of the artwork had the twin towers and it said " never forget! " underneath them and then there was the " I love dick " or whatever. There was some really funny stuff on him. He got to show off all his new ink to the border patrol! Anyway, they didn't find any humor or any drugs but I have this story to tell so I win!
Worst tour story.
I think that one answers both these questions! Best of times, worst of times kind of thing.
Favorite songs to play live.
Right now I think "Love Suicidal" is a favorite for all of us. Anything off the new album is fun right now.
And bands you would want to play a show with.
Yeah Red City Radio and Green Day so we can show them how a real rock trio is supposed to work.
Any other final thoughts about the touring aspect of your band.
Well we love to do a good tour and that is why we are still at it. To write songs and play them for people. Traveling in a band has got to be one of the best ways to see the world, next to being Anthony Bourdain or someone like that. You get to go places where most tourists don't and you get to meet people who almost instantly are your good friends and they want to take you everywhere and tell you everything about their town or city or country. It's the best even if you are in a place that might not be paradise and you might not have much money in your pocket.
