Greatest Hits

Had a little discussion over the weekend after it was mentioned that the Gorillaz were putting out a greatest hits that what band would we buy just a greatest hits album of.  First off, why are the Gorillaz putting out a greatest hits cd?  Do they have enough for that?  I know some of their hits, but don't think there's hits that are "great."  They are probably putting b sides and what not on there as well.  Secondly, when you think of greatest hits, you think that band doesn't have any new material, so they are just milking us for a cd of all their good songs.  Which is fine in a way, but I would much rather hear new material by bands.  Thanks to Spotify though, I can hit up the greatest hits of a band, and enjoy those songs as they are.

What bands would I buy just a greatest hits cd?  I usually come back to the classic rock bands such as Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, the Who, and such. I know they have put out great albums as a whole, but give me a cd that has "Back in the Saddle" "Dream On" "Mama Kin" and "Seasons of Wither" and I would be good with Aerosmith.  I know back in the day, I used to be a hits listener anyways, just ask my Hootie and the Blowfish cd.  There's a hits band I would listen to.  Or just put a hits album of early 90s rock songs.

Very interesting idea the greatest hits album.  Is it just  way to finish up a record deal?  Or is it truly a band's way of saying thanks for the support and listen to our hits?  Tell me what bands you would buy just a greatest hits album.
